Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone 720p mp4 57 The Harry Potter series is one of the most popular book series in history. With eight books, seven movies, that are each longer than 300 minutes, £32.7 billion in worldwide box-office takings, and more than 100 million copies sold to date around the world it is no wonder that this series has been so well received. The Sorcerer's Stone which was released on 16th June 2001 was Harry's first novel featuring him as a hero at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry which he attends with his friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. The film was directed by Chris Columbus and produced by David Heyman and many of its movie cast were the same ones who were in the film for its sequels. Although not as good looking as Daniel Radcliffe, or as talented at acting as Emma Watson, or even able to stand on his feet for long periods of time like Rupert Grint, it is undeniable that this trio of child actors did a great job portraying their characters and did them justice. People who did not read the book will almost certainly recognise all of them and people who do read the book may even picture them when they are reading. The film begins with a cute little owl, Hedwig, being sent to Harry's aunt and uncle who live in a house on a street called Privet Drive. On the envelope it says that it has been sent by 'Peter Pettigrew' which is intriguing to Harry. Hedwig was his pet owl when he was young and he loved her very much. However, Uncle Vernon mumbles that there is no such person as Peter Pettigrew having said so on numerous occasions over the years he has been calling him "a common thief". In his anger and frustration Uncle Vernon does not notice the writing nor the handwriting on the envelope and snatches it away. Harry takes out a photo of himself and his parents who died in a car crash when he was a baby. He is distant from his relatives, however, so it's not an odd thing to see him do. In fact, he does it quite often. Just as Uncle Vernon goes to throw the envelope out of the window it blows up in his face and lands on the floor at Harry's feet. After looking around to see if anyone saw what happened Harry picks up the letter and opens it tentatively whilst trying hard not to get caught by Uncle Vernon. There is a letter in the envelope from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry saying that he has been accepted to the school and he is required to come there on 1st September at 11 o'clock.
